Nevada Football Names Team Captains for The 2025 Season

After opting for one-game captains last year, the Nevada Wolf Pack has selected four full-season captains for the 2025 campaign. Seniors QB Chubba Purdy, OL Andrew Madrigal, DL Thomas Witte, and DB Murvin Kenion III were announced as team leaders ahead of Wednesday’s first fall practice.

Madrigal and Witte bring extensive experience to the role. Madrigal, a center, is entering his fifth year with the Wolf Pack and has started 33 consecutive games—the longest active streak among returning Mountain West players. Witte, a defensive tackle, is in his sixth season after originally joining as a walk-on in 2020 and has been a starter for the past three years.

Purdy, now in his second season at Nevada, is poised to take over as the starting quarterback following previous stints at Florida State and Nebraska. This marks his sixth year in college football. Meanwhile, Kenion, a safety, is preparing for his debut season with the Wolf Pack after transferring from Sacramento State, with prior stops at San Francisco City College and Idaho. He joined Nevada during spring camp in March.

Head coach Jeff Choate, entering his second season, chose not to name full-season captains in 2024, citing his unfamiliarity with the roster at the time. The team finished last year with a 3-10 overall record and an 0-7 mark in Mountain West play.

Nevada kicks off fall camp today and will begin its season on August 30 with a tough road matchup against preseason top-five contender Penn State.
